If there is one hypercar maker that gets people hype, it’s Koenigsegg. It’s one of those brands that appeals to everyone. At Monterey Car Week, you could see teen trendspotters, wealthy, snooty guys and crypto bros alike all flocking to a Koenigsegg tucked into a street in Carmel. It unites every car lover.
I also have a pretty funny story about Koenigsegg: At Monterey Car Week back in 2025, I almost got T-boned by the CEO in a four-way intersection while driving my Lotus Elise. Neither of us would go. It was one of those things where we both kept inching forward then stopping for the other. I mean, can you blame me? I did not want to really mess with such a fancy car.
I finally decided to go, and he went too. My boyfriend has not let me live this one down.
Suffice to say, Koenigsegg is a legendary carmaker. When the Gemera was finally shipped out to customers after years of waiting, it was most definitely an exciting moment. Even though nonoe of us were getting one. All 300 were spoken for before production, and even if they weren’t, they are $2.5 million (like this limited hypercar).
So, it was quite devastating when the first-ever sold Koenigsegg Gemera was seen vandalized within a week of delivery.

On Reddit, the car community was greeted with a horrific sight on August 25th. Someone shared four images of the Koenigsegg Gemera, largely centering around a smashed windshield. The incident allegedly happened in Copenhagen, Denmark, right in front of the Hotel d’Angleterre.
To add insult to injury, this was the first-ever Gemera to reach a customer. It had only been with the buyer for a week when this happened.
For most cars, a smashed windshield isn’t really the end of the world. But on a Koenigsegg? One Reddit user commented: “That windshield cost more than my… everything!” Another added: “It costs more than me!”
The reason behind the windshield bashing was not revealed just yet. The car itself was hidden away under a tarp after the damage was discovered.
“I’m surprised,” one Reddit comment said. “Copenhagen is extremely safe. And that’s a terrific and upscale part of the city. And the D’Angleterre is staffed 24/7 with doormen and reception staff with full view of the street outside.
“Makes me think this was a targeted hit. I mean, I suppose a jealous teenager could have done this, but that would be surprising. A relative of mine drives an exotic to and from work in that area daily; parked in a public parking garage. And nothing has ever happened to that car. It’s not like London. Or Paris. Danes are generally speaking pretty chill and law-abiding.”
What’s so special about the Koenigsegg Gemera?
Six years is a long time to wait for anything, let alone a car. But that’s exactly how long Koenigsegg’s customers had been sitting on their hands since the Gemera first turned heads back in 2020.
Now, the wait is officially done. Koenigsegg confirmed via a Facebook post that Gemera production began in earnest back in March, and deliveries to customers are now underway.
For a company known for producing cars in painfully small numbers, actually seeing the Gemera reach customers marks a real milestone. All 300 units were spoken for long before the first one left the factory, so this isn’t a car anyone can still walk in and order. It’s simply a matter of watching deliveries finally catch up to years of anticipation.
The Gemera is something quite special, a four-door hypercar. Despite being a “family car,” the Gemera has a V8 and electric motor that creates 1,400 horsepower. There’s also a version with a twin-turbo V8 and electric motor that creates 2,300 horsepower and 2,028 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the Gemera is light, sleek, aerodynamic, and curvy.
