Reservations for the Tesla Roadster are now open again.
The second-generation Tesla Roadster was first announced over 10 years ago. Since then, CEO Elon Musk hasn’t really told us anything at all about its design, performance, or anything of importance. Instead, he told us that it would be able to “fly” or something.
Oh, and there will allegedly be four motors. Right now, there are only, like, four EVs with four motors. This includes the Rivian lineup and the Rimac Nevera hypercar.
Per usual, just getting silly promises rather than concrete updates.
Back in May, Tesla’s Chief Engineer proclaimed that “you’ll see a lot of things start to unfold in the next months.” I don’t know what “next months” means, but I feel it’s been beyond that by now. Maybe double that. And yet, we have been given no updates on its production or performance.
Instead, we have been told that a production-spec reveal is coming on October 1st. So… The news is that there will be news.
Back in 2017, Tesla claimed that the new Roadster would seat four people, accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in under two seconds, and have a range of 620 miles. That will be nowhere near reality. Musk claimed similar things about the Cybertruck, and that turned out to be a drowning pile of metal garbage. Owning one is basically a humiliation ritual.
Despite previous promises, Tesla repeatedly delayed the Roadster for over a decade. As I previously speculated, I think the delay is in part due to Musk wanting to deliver on the “flying” claim, where they keep stating that SpaceX cold-gas thrusters will lift the vehicle off the ground. You know, something we all need.
Instead of just making a cool, fast electric sports car, Musk wants to do something beyond Tesla’s actual capabilities. What a shocker.
Despite giving us nothing, Tesla has reopened reservations. I guess why not? If your fanbase is willing to pre-order a car they know nothing about, why bother?
How to pre-order a Tesla Roadster
If you want to reserve a Tesla Roadster like a chump, head to the official Tesla site. You’ll need to put down a $5,000 deposit (which will be used to pay for the Roadster presentation’s Optimus robot dance battle. Just kidding).
Then, in 10 days, you’ll need to wire over $45,000. For a vehicle that may never exist or do what Tesla claims. No big deal.
Wrote one Tesla fan on X: “This is so tempting, but also… am I gonna fall for the same trap as before!?”
Judging by the copium from Tesla fan boys on X, I’d say yes, yes you will.
The site reads: “The estimated purchase price of the vehicle, if provided, is only an estimate. We are still working on what options, features and hardware the vehicle will have and so cannot confirm the exact price just yet. Your Purchase Price will ultimately be confirmed once you’ve configured your vehicle.”
So, you won’t won’t know anything about the car or its price.

We will hopefully hear more information at the reveal event in October. However, Tesla has presented grandiose concepts before, only to never deliver. I mean, the last one had Optimus robots being remotely controlled by humans. I don’t have much faith that we’ll see a flying car at this presentation.
But hey, you never know.
