McLaren is ending the production of the 750S in 2027. Bad news for all of us who had plans to buy one in 2028.
Darn.
The 750S came out in 2024, the successor to the 720S. One of my favorite supercars, it has an aggressive, alien-like appearance with flashy dihedral doors that make it look like an exotic, venomous bug when open. You guys know how much I love a good and emotional car design.
But the 750S is not just a pretty face. It has a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 producing 740 horsepower, nearly four times that of the 2006 Lotus Elise. But the McLaren 750S is nowhere near four times the weight at just 2,800ish pounds. It can reach 60 miles per hour in 2.3 seconds.
Despite being such a gorgeous and powerful car, McLaren is discontinuing the 750S in 2027. Hopefully it’s for a good reason.
McLaren has a “new chapter” ahead
We aren’t exactly sure what’s next. Will anything directly replace the 750S? Maybe a 770S or something? Unfortunately, this could truly be the end.
In September 2026, McLaren revealed an all-new logo that the car community compared to an eye doctor’s eye test chart. It’s part of McLaren’s new identity.
“It’s a reflection of the journey we are on as a company,” David Woodhouse, McLaren Automotive CCO, said in a press release. “It marks the beginning of a new chapter for McLaren, giving a physical expression to the ambition, creativity, and forward momentum that is shaping our future.”
So… Is this another “Copy Nothing” moment? Honestly, sort of. As Jaguar turns to the electric refrigerator-of-a-car, the Type 01, and Ferrari gets roasted for its hideous electric Luce, it can feel like luxury brands are losing their edge.
Well, McLaren has confirmed its first SUV. It was one of the last remaining supercar brands to hold out and remain a pure sports-car lineup. I really respected that. Unfortunately, a performance SUV is coming. Hopefully, it’s not as sterile as the new logo.
It’s not all doom and gloom, however. McLaren is growing its racing presence, committing hundreds of millions of dollars into this. The first-ever vehicle to carry McLaren’s new logo is the McL 6GT, inspired by Bruce McLaren’s original Le Mans road car.
Good enough reason to lose the 750S? So far, I’d say no. There’s also word that McLaren could be working on a new mid-engine sports car priced between the McLaren Artura and the 750S. It will be a hybrid supercar, expected to have a twin-turbo V6 engine producing 810 horsepower. It’s expected to be a bit cheaper than the $315,000 750S.
For now, you can purchase the limited-production 788HS, which is even lighter and more aerodynamic than the standard 750S. But we’re all totally getting that new mid-engine car, right? Just gimme a few years.
