Ram is recalling about 12,000 of its 2500 HD pickup trucks. And it’s apparently because they’re too fast.
Basically, the recalled trucks are equipped with R-rated factory tires with a 106-mile-per-hour limit. While HD trucks are usually limited to 105 mph, the recalled models have the speed limit set higher, although we’re not sure by how much. Either way, anyone crazy enough to drive their truck over 100 miles per hour could wear down the tires from the added heat, experience instability, or suffer a blowout.
I know you were gonna go racing in your 2500 HD pickup, but please get the Powertrain Control Module software updated first.
Ram vs. Ford: Who is more reliable?
Ram recalled 12,736 2500 HD pickups. These models were built between June 21st, 2022 and April 14th, 2026. It’s unclear if it’s a certain engine (Cummins diesel or Hemi V8) or both.
The safest thing to do? Look up your VIN on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website. You’ll also be notified by June 4th.
There have been two other Ram 2500 recalls in 2026 so far. This includes the trailer brake lights and turn signals not being visible to other drivers, as well as the instrument panel display failing to display critical safety information, such as warning lights. Honestly, it’s not too bad.
And to be fair to Ford, its equivalent truck, the Ford F-250, only has two recalls in 2026 as well. The driveshaft friction weld could fail, causing a sudden loss of drive power. The trailer lights were another issue, similar to Ram.
Still, Ford has been getting a bad rep for its seemingly endless recalls. We don’t even really report on it anymore. There’s a new recall every week. Ford has had 582 recalls in the past decade, making it the brand with the most recalls ever. But most of these recalls were not serious. In fact, the recalls only made Ford’s vehicles safer.
When it comes to reliability, Ford and Ram seem neck and neck with their pickups. The Ford F-150 has a simplified build that makes it less likely to run into issues. The Ram 1500 has been condemned here and there for its software defects, showing that going more technical isn’t always the answer. However, the 2500 has been consistently praised for its durability. Ram vehicles are also a bit more costly to maintain than Ford. If you ask Consumer Reports, Ford is generally more reliable than Ram. By a lot. However, it’s most reliable vehicle is the 2500.
At this point, I’d say it’s just a matter of preference. It’s pretty funny to see the two fanbases roasting each other’s vehicles on Reddit. I think my colleague would rile them up and add the Lightning into the mix. But that’s out of the picture for now. Will Ford’s new $30,000 pickup become the tiebreaker between Ford and Ram? When it comes to reliability, I think this simplified pickup will change some people’s minds about Ford, but that depends on how many recalls it gets in the first year.
