Overview

Toyota took the same gamble with the 2026 RAV4 as it did with the Camry: hybrid only. The sixth-generation RAV4 drops the standalone gasoline engine entirely, making every RAV4 a hybrid from the base trim up. At 40 MPG combined, the math works — you're saving roughly $800 per year in fuel compared to the old gas model, which mostly offsets the price increase. The Prime plug-in hybrid remains available for buyers who want to go further, now offering up to 50 miles of electric-only range. That's enough to handle most daily commutes without burning any gas at all. Combined output of 302 horsepower also makes the Prime the quickest RAV4 in the lineup. The RAV4 doesn't try to be sporty — the Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5 are better to drive — but it doesn't need to be. It sells more than any other SUV in America because it's reliable, efficient, practical, and holds its value better than anything in the class. Those aren't exciting qualities, but they're the ones that matter most when you're signing a five-year loan.
