When you hear $100,000 Toyota Corolla, it sounds completely insane. The commuter car known for humbly driving you to work and lasting beyond 300,000? But this is no ordinary Toyota Corolla.

The Toyota Corolla Levin, or AE86, is a lot sportier than the Corolla that immediately comes to mind. Erase that one, and picture this: a rear-wheel-drive sports coupe from the 1980s that’s angular, lightweight, and has pop-up headlights. Drivers noticed its balanced handling and raw power made it perfect for racing. TOM’S Racing used the AE86 in the 1985 All Japan Touring Car Championship — and won.

Its drifting and racing potential drew a lot of attention to the AE86. It starred in the Initial D anime in the 1990s. This cemented it as an iconic JDM sought by collectors and drivers alike. However, this is a very popular tuner car, and it’s quite difficult to find a clean one. Until now. Well, if you have six figures to spare.

Considering the Toyota Corolla?

What makes a Toyota Corolla worth $100,000?

TOM’S Heritage is introducing a restoration program. To showcase what the program is all about, TOM’s Heritage turned a bare chassis into a running car two years later. The bare chassis was a donated 1980s Toyota Corolla Levin, stripped down, any bodywork issues addressed, brought up to modern racing standards, and then the Levin body was reproduced, making sure it’s period-correct.

Under the hood, it was fitted with a 4A-G inline-4, naturally aspirated, 1626cc engine that produces 192 horsepower at 7,980 rpm. The interior has original seats — rebuilt with a urethane base and woven fabric inspired by the time period — along with a vintage TOM’S steering wheel and door liners. Essentially, everything has been rejuvenated and reimagined, from the hardware to the interior to the paint, making it nearly identical to a factory-fresh AE86.

The blend of modern performance and vintage styling makes these restored Toyota Corolla Levin models quite special, bringing the AE86’s 80s racing culture to the track today.

But being that special comes with a special price. And by special, we mean expensive. If you want one of the restored AE86’s for yourself, you can bring TOM’S a donor car and then pay $82,500 for the team to work their magic, or you can pay $103,000 if you want them to find the car for you.

If you are unsure if you are ready to drop six figures on a Toyota Corolla, TOM’S fully restored AE86 will be on display at the Automobile Council 2026 at Makuhari Messe from April 10th to April 12th. It has come full circle, after the bare chassis was displayed at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2025.
