Overview
The Ioniq 6 is an aerodynamic exercise wrapped in a sedan body. Its 0.21 drag coefficient — one of the lowest of any production car — enables 361 miles of range from the same 77.4-kWh battery that gives the boxier Ioniq 5 only 303 miles. Physics works, and the Ioniq 6 proves it.
That efficiency translates to real-world savings. At 140 MPGe, the Ioniq 6 costs roughly $0.04 per mile in electricity — about a third of what a 30-MPG gasoline sedan costs. Over 100,000 miles, the fuel savings alone approach $10,000.
The 800V fast-charging architecture carries over from the Ioniq 5, with the same class-leading 18-minute 10-80% charge time. Range anxiety is a non-issue for any trip that stays within the fast-charging network.
The design is the sticking point. The streamlined fastback profile is beautiful in a wind-tunnel sense but divisive in a parking-lot sense. The small trunk opening makes loading luggage more difficult than it should be, and rear-seat headroom is compromised by the sloping roof. The Model 3 is more practical. The BMW i4 has a more conventional look. But neither can match the Ioniq 6's range or efficiency numbers, and for buyers who prioritize those metrics, the Ioniq 6 is the clear winner.

Pros & Cons
✓ Pros
- 361 miles of range is exceptional — more than most EVs costing twice as much
- Energy efficiency of 140 MPGe translates to very low per-mile electricity costs
- 800V fast charging makes road trips practical
✗ Cons
- Fastback design limits trunk opening — loading bulky items is awkward
- Rear headroom is tight due to the sloping roofline
- The streamliner styling is even more polarizing than the Ioniq 5
