The price of the Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC has been confirmed — and it’s over $100,000. It sounds like a lot (and it is), but this is the current state of performance cars in the United States. In fact, the Dark Horse SC is cheaper than the Chevrolet Corvette Z06. But which one is right for you?

Assuming you have six figures lying around.

Dark Horse SC vs. Corvette Z06: Which is actually cheaper?

Ford just confirmed the price for the Dark Horse SC, and it’s over $100,000. The exact price? We’re currently looking at a starting price of $103,490. That’s $8,610 less than the Corvette Z06, which starts at $112,100.

However, once you start upgrading, the comparison flip-flops a bit. The Dark Horse with the Track Pack comes out to $139,990, offering Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, and lightweight carbon-fiber wheels inspired by the GTD, as well as a larger, adjustable rear wing and the removal of its rear seats.

The Z06 with the Z07 package hits $125,000, improving your handling and braking with additions like Brembo carbon ceramic brakes, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires, and a stiffer FE7 suspension with adjusted Magnetic Ride Control. It also requires the addition of the Carbon Fiber Aero Package.

Essentially, if you want stock, go with the Dark Horse SC. If you want upgrades, the Z06 may be a better deal. However, this is going off of price alone. There is a lot more to consider.

For one, depreciation. The Dark Horse SC will likely be limited upon release, meaning it could even appreciate within certain collector circles. The Z06 is not high volume by any means, but there are already 1,200 out there for the 2026 model year. And we’ve seen even rarer and more special Corvettes depreciate like crazy over the years.

Dark Horse SC vs. Corvette Z06: Which performance will make you smile more? (Trick question)

These two American performance cars are night and day. The Dark Horse SC is all about brute force while the Z06 is about precise handling. Both are fast.

The Dark Horse SC has a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 that we believe will get you over 700 horsepower. Ford hasn’t confirmed anything just yet, but the Dark Horse itself has 500 hp. The Dark Horse also has a top speed of 180 miles per hour and can reach 60 mph in as low as 3.7 seconds. It’s safe to assume that the Dark Horse SC will be quicker and have a higher top speed.

The Z06’s 5.5L LT6 V8 is the most powerful naturally aspirated engine out there, providing 670 hp. It’s not as much horsepower as the Dark Horse SC, but its a high-revving car with a 8,600 RPM redline.

With the Dark Horse SC, you’re looking at extremely fast straight lines and immense power from an American muscle-inspired engine with the orchestra to match. Feeling all that power is most definitely a visceral experience that only a few modern cars offer if you miss the golden era of massive engines and quarter mile competition.

However, the Z06 is all about precision and maneuverability. The straight line won’t be as explosive, but the Z06 is a lot more likely to expertly tackle spirited canyon drives or track days. It’s possibly a more engaging experience, with a driver-focused cabin and high-revving engine for faster throttle response and more aggressive cornering.

We’ll need to wait for the official numbers to determine the winner here, of course. If the Dark Horse SC is closer to 700 than 800, the Z06 wins on power-to-weight ratio. But again, these are just numbers. The experience is big here. Both offer different performances.

At this point, you gotta ask yourself: Are you looking to experience American muscle at its most powerful or bully supercars and exotic cars at the track?

Dark Horse SC vs. Corvette Z06: Can you daily drive either of these beasts?

You can most definitely daily drive either of these vehicles, especially if you don’t care about spending more at the pump. I mean, if you truly cared about that, you’d be looking at a Corolla, not comparing these two. Still, we’ll give you the stats.

It’s no shocker, but Ford hasn’t revealed the Dark Horse SC’s miles per gallon as one of its exciting first bits of detail. However, the Dark Horse gets 14 miles in the city, 22 miles on the highway, and a combined 17 miles per gallon. The Z06 has a confirmed 12 mpg in the city, 21 on the highway, and a combined 15 mpg. The Dark Horse SC and Z06 will likely be very similar in this category, but the Dark Horse SC could narrowly win. Not by an amount that matters.

When it comes to comfort, the Dark Horse SC may win by Lightning McQueen’s tongue once again. For one, it has back seats (if you’re going with the base model). This means you can bring along your kids, groceries, or even short friends. The Z06 has a more driver-focused interior, meaning less comfort and fewer seats. One comment on Reddit about the Z06 made me chuckle: “Not sure how they expect the old dudes to drive these things.”

Even though the Z06 interior has been upgraded a bit for the 2026 model, I think you’d be overall more comfortable commuting in the Dark Horse SC. So if you want to daily drive a vehicle between track days, the Dark Horse SC could be worth waiting for. It’ll be in showrooms by the summer.
