But I haven’t seen anyone talking about it beyond that gaming space, and I think more car enthusiasts should see this. Toyota has turned a front Crown power car seat into a gaming chair. And it works.

The limited edition Crown Seat Desk Chair looks exactly like the car seat, down to the seatbelt buckle (which has been turned into a USB-C charging port). Just like the Crown sedan, it has powered adjustment for reclining angle, height, lumbar support, and tilt. There are three warming levels for the back and lower hips as well as three levels for cooling in the back and seat area. A rechargeable battery controls all of the adjustments, heating, and cooling, so it doesn’t have to be plugged in.

To enhance the car seat aesthetic, the Crown Seat Desk Chair is upholstered in automotive-grade leather with high-density cushioning. Basically, you’re gonna feel like you’re sitting in the passenger seat of a sedan. The quality stitching adds to the effect. It just looks a lot more comfortable and supportive than your usual gaming chair, thanks to its thicker, plusher car seat design. If you tilt the chair back, you could definitely fall asleep with that headrest behind you.

Car seats and gaming: a semi-love story

Unfortunately, the Crown Seat Desk Chair is a lot rarer than the Crown itself (over 12,300 sold in the United States in 2025). The Japanese-exclusive chair will only have 70 units available. And whoever wants to be one of those lucky 70 will haev to dish out $3,500. If you’re not in the gaming space, I can tell you this: that’s insanely expensive for a gaming chair. The most popular gaming chairs of 2026 are more around the $500 range.

The car seat turned gaming chair crossover is not completely new. Nissan collaborated with Itoki (the same brand working with Toyota this time around) to make gaming chairs based on the Nissan GT-R and Nissan Cube. There have also been office chairs inspired by Porsche, BMKW, Mercedes, and Recaro. However, the two entitites are not as alike as people think at first glance, which is why this Crown Seat Desk Chair is so special.

Gaming chairs have always resembled car seats, especially bucket seats, but that’s more for the aesthetic. The materials, features, and purposes couldn’t be more different. Racing bucket seats are meant to be sturdy and secure while gaming seats are meant to offer back support and correct posture. With such different materials and construction, racing seats are often in the thousands while gaming chairs are more around $500, as I mentioned earlier.

But many gamers have felt car seats are an improvement, if they were more affordable. Someone on X lamented: “I’ve hated gaming chairs for a long time now and have been saying that luxury car companies should do this.” Most comments were in support of Toyota’s luxury gaming seat, but some couldn’t help but point out the price issue: “You can get a pre-owned 2010 Toyota Camry for cheaper.”

There are stories of gamers making their own, like one guy who turned a Volvo car seat into a gaming chair. All you need is an extra car laying around. Or maybe check eBay for some spare seats. I searched “Nissan” and saw quite a good collection available. And they were way under $3,500. Of course, you’ll need to do a bit of work on them to turn them into a gaming chair. Or you can skip all the work and just play on a laptop while sitting in your car. If you have an electric car, you can also play some games on the screen in there.

Anyway, thought this was pretty neat!

As someone in the gaming space, I’ve been seeing this everywhere.
