A photographer at AutoNotion spotted a 2028 Lamborghini Temerario Spyder prototype testing on Nürburgring’s Nordschleife, meaning a convertible is very likely on the way.

While Lamborghini did its best to camouflage the Temerario, we can see that the prototype’s roof appears flat while the released coupe has a scalloped center and raised rails. The Spyder’s removable top will likely be rigid rather than soft fabric, allowing drivers to place the panels in the frunk when they take the top down. This has been the tradition with Lamborghini so far. Aside from the roof and engine cover, we assume the Temerario Spyder will be largely identical to the coupe.

The Temerario Spyder fits into Lamborghini’s powerful lineup

It seems like the perfect time to test the Temerario Spyder, since Lamborghini will likely reveal it this summer — first at Goodwood Festival of Speed in the U.K. in July, then Monterey Car Week in California in August.

The Spyder will likely become part of Lamborghini’s upcoming lineup, which has a lot of exciting stuff in store. The luxury carmaker recently decided to cut the Lanzador EV from this lineup, with CEO Stephan Winkelmann stating earlier this year that its clientele had no interest in an electric car. The current desire is “close to zero,” he said, but added later on that the EV was still possible if they could figure out how to make an electric supercar appealing. So far, they have no idea how.

Neither do I.

Most Lamborghini enthusiasts and collectors are drawn in not just by the dramatic, angled body of the supercars but also by the engine, which would make EVs a bit useless. The loud, high-revving engines inside Lamborghini’s models have become the main attraction, allowing drivers to feel connected to their car and wowing onlookers.

Speaking of, the Temerario Spyder will keep the same engine as the coupe: a 10,00 RPM, 907-horsepower V8. While convertibles are often seen as less aerodynamic for the track, there’s something to be said about hearing the engine even clearer with the top down. However, some car enthusiasts have wondered whether a hard top is better than a soft top, since it adds a bit of weight and can be seen as a bit inconvenient.

Said one fan: “For Lamborghini, I imagine aesthetics are the most important thing, and there isn’t going to be a practicality/trunk space compromise with the mid-engined car. So, really, all they are giving up is more weight for better aesthetics. So I think they literally decided that the aesthetics were worth the 100-pound weight penalty for their target buyers.”

While Lamborghinis are more for collecting and showing off than racing down the track, there’s no denying that the Temerario Spyder would still be a thrill. The Spyder will fit right into Lamborghini’s upcoming lineup, which seems to be focused on power and performance. And bringing Lamborghini back to its roots.

Winkelmann has confirmed that four new vehicles will be revealed this year, although he didn’t say exactly what to expect. We have an idea, of course. With the EV idea out the window, we can expect a new Urus in 2028 or 2029, perfect for families with too much money to settle on a Porsche, the track-focused Urus SE Performante, which we’ve seen sneaking around, the Temerario Spyder, and a Revuelto roadster, the Fenomeno, meant to celebrate 60 years of the Miura with its incredible performance.

It’s a smart move for Lamborghini, which delivered 10,747 vehicles worldwide in 2025, a new record. Sticking to hybrid and gas-powered cars has continued to win over the wealthy supercar enthusiasts. EV interest is shrinking, especially the desire for luxury ones, and the brand noticed that.

Winkelmann previously stated: “Despite challenging market conditions, we are very proud of the results achieved in 2025, which confirm Lamborghini’s ability to stand out even in a complex global environment. The performance recorded reflects our capacity to interpret market dynamics and to make strategic choices that respond concretely to our customers’ expectations.”

The Temerario Spyder will debut sometime in 2027. The Spyder will likely start at $375,000 for the base model with nothing added.

Lamborghini’s turbocharged Temerario has been spied without a roof.
