The 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT SUV EV is unique in the sense that Mercedes-AMG has built it from the ground up. It\u2019s not just a slightly tweaked version of a regular Mercedes SUV. Which means there\u2019s plenty of hype around it, it\u2019s not often that AMG gets free reign from the very beginning.<\/p>\n

Photographers first spotted the prototype vehicle back in February, but it was still heavily camouflaged. Now that some of that has been removed, we can confirm a lot about the prototype Mercedes-AMG GT SUV EV. It\u2019s definitely a more aggressive and sleeker SUV than you would find in the standard Mercedes lineup.<\/p>\n

We do get a clearer look at the headlights than we have before, and can see the Mercedes star stretched out above the main lamp. One arm of the star seemingly forms a kind of eyebrow over the headlight\u2019s main body, while the other two are standard size. It\u2019s a subtle inclusion of a Mercedes staple.<\/p>\n

AMG\u2019s choice of front fascia is pretty upright and powerful, with harsh angles. It\u2019s a little bit snake-like and aggressive overall. The reduced camouflage really emphasizes the jut of the bumper and the hard slope above it that meets the hood. There\u2019s a visible notch above the plate as well, which again makes it look a bit snake-like, though the prototype is still unbadged so said nook may be filled on the production vehicle.<\/p>\n

The lower intake, which is nestled below the license plate, looks subtle but substantial, which tracks for an EV. While EVs don\u2019t usually need as much airflow as conventional engines, the intake could be involved in cooling the performance SUV\u2019s battery when it\u2019s under load.<\/p>\n

If you look at the fender, it\u2019s also blocky and powerful-looking, rather than sleek. The wheel wells, which contain Continental WinterContact 275\/45 R 21 V XL tires all around, seem almost square. But the blocky (and somewhat elongated) front makes way for a pretty aerodynamic side profile overall.<\/p>\n

As the side shot shows, the upcoming Mercedes-AMG sits pretty low. The roof has a clear and defined slope too, it’s very fastback-like, which makes you wonder where the company is going to go with the coupe variant.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, we haven\u2019t spotted the Mercedes-AMG GT EV “Coupe” yet. But AMG does appear to be doing a lot of testing at the moment. So the first prototypes of the GT EV\u2019s coupe version are expected to show up in the next few months. Keep checking back, and you\u2019ll see them as soon as we do.<\/p>\n

A limited glimpse of the interior was available, but it’s just a peek at some leather, carbon fiber, and chrome. Which is what you’d expect from a sporty, luxury, SUV. Everything else was covered.<\/p>\n

What the Mercedes-AMG GT SUV EV might offer performance-wise<\/h2>\n

The SUV sits on Affalterbach\u2019s in-house AMG.EA platform, which differs significantly from the standard MB.EA architecture is regularly used by Mercedes EVs. Expect a high-performance, ultra-advanced battery pack along with 800-volt architecture and 330 kW fast charging from the vehicle. The platform\u2019s 48-volt active suspension system mitigates pitch, dive, and body roll during harsh cornering, braking, and acceleration.<\/p>\n

Powering it all will be a set of YASA developed Axial-Flux Motors. Each of these motors can theoretically belt out up to 480 horsepower. Motors are rarely run to their limits, but Mercedes-AMG is planning on pushing things close enough. A standard dual-motor variant of the Mercedes-AMG GT EV will provide an eyewatering 958 horsepower. The premium tri-motor model is reportedly going to have 1,360.<\/p>\n

We don’t know what the 0-60 time will be for the GT EV, and you may argue it doesn’t really matter.<\/a> But the thing is going to be exceptionally powerful.<\/p>\n

Mercedes is expected to officially unveil the 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT SUV EV later in 2026.<\/p>\n
