In 2026, Lucid is looking to add a mid-size model to its fleet that will be about $50,000 \u2014 no less!<\/p>\n<div class=\"outstream_partner msnt-adv-videoscroller\">\n<div id=\"video-ads-786715\" class=\"video-ads\" data-m1-ad-label=\"VIDEO-PLAYER\" data-msnt-initialized=\"true\">\n<section class=\"relatedContent-new trinity-skip-it\">\n<p class=\"trending-content_header\"><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">&#8220;Luxury manufacturer\u2013that&#8217;s where we plan to be,\u201d said Lucid Motors CEO Marc Winterhoff at the BloombergNEF Summit back in January 2026. \u201cCall it luxury\/premium. Right now, we don&#8217;t have plans to go into, let&#8217;s say, lower cost vehicles around $30,000, $35,000, something like that.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This $50,000 price tag would make the model a competitor with the Tesla Model Y, as well as the Volvo EX60, and BMW iX3. It&#8217;s a pretty saturated market in the EV landscape, but Winterhoff is not worried. He believes this new Lucid would target a &#8220;much bigger market&#8221; by fitting in to the &#8220;average&#8221; U.S. car market for new cars.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>With an estimated price of $50,000, Lucid\u2019s first mid-size electric car will battle it out with the Tesla Model Y,\u00a0Mercedes-Benz GLC,\u00a0BMW iX3,\u00a0Volvo EX60\u00a0and upcoming\u00a0Rivian R2. It\u2019s the toughest segment out there, but Lucid\u2019s head honcho is confident that the company\u2013and the car\u2013has what it takes to succeed.<\/p>\n<p>The price tag targeted by the company\u2019s first mid-size model \u201cis exactly the average of the U.S. car market, not only EVs, but also the internal combustion engines,\u201d Winterhoff added. \u201cSo yes, we are targeting a much bigger market.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new mid-size platform will add three models to Lucid&#8217;s lineup over time. The first one is likely a crossover, with production kicking off later this year. The second model will come in 2028 and the third will be 18 months after that, according to an interview with InsideEVs. The crossover will be produced in Lucid&#8217;s Saudi Arabian factory in hopes of exporting it to Europe and Asia, and its American factory for domestic sales as well.<\/p>\n<h2>America is falling behind in the EV price wars<\/h2>\n<p>The issue with Lucid&#8217;s $50,000 mid-size crossover is that it&#8217;s not actually cheap. Lucid is correct that America&#8217;s average price for a new car has skyrocketed past $50,000, but that&#8217;s actually a problem that many manufacturers are attempting to solve after seeing China&#8217;s cheap EVs spread to the rest of the world.<\/p>\n<p>Ford is one of the most prominent American manufacturers that&#8217;s been making a big to-do about making vehicles that don&#8217;t go past $40,000. It has promised <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autonocion.com\/us\/ford-five-vehicles-not-enough\/\">five EVs in this price range<\/a>, including the much-buzzed-about $30,000 EV pickup truck. However, that truck won&#8217;t be here until 2027. Meanwhile, we already are seeing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autonocion.com\/us\/cheap-chinese-electric-pickup\/\">$18,000 EV pickups from China<\/a> that are heading to Europe, Asia, and now Canada.<\/p>\n<p>You can claim that Americans don&#8217;t want this cheapo pickup all you want, but U.S. leaders are already acting quite salty and defensive about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autonocion.com\/us\/us-panic-over-canada-chinese-evs\/\">Canada&#8217;s decision to let in China&#8217;s EVs<\/a>.
