At first, car enthusiasts were quick to joke on Porsche for choosing that day to reveal a supercar. How could they compete with Tesla’s flying car?

But one is actually coming, and one isn’t.

A driver’s car, inside and out

Mission S.

Everything a sports car needs. Nothing more. https://t.co/dWYXVnPHcQ

— Porsche (@Porsche) October 16, 2026

The Tesla Roadster jumped over a Cybertruck and rocketed to 60 miles per hour in under 1 second, but that was all done with a bunch of screens, smoke, and other tricks. We still don’t truly know anything about the second-generation Tesla Roadster in terms of its final looks, performance, or capabilities.

The reveal was more of a marketing stunt than a reveal, which was suited for Tesla fans who like to daydream of the “future,” but had a lot lacking for car enthusiasts and driving purists who don’t want to drive at 300-something miles per hour or use G-Force to be planted on the track as you turn.

For the real drivers out there, Porsche has given us the Mission S. Teenagers have taunted Porsche on X over the weekend, asking if the Mission S can even fly. But enthusiasts are glad it does not.

The Mission S is part of Porsche’s “Sports Car Company ’35” plan, meant to give drivers a glimpse at how Porsche’s future will be shaped. Chairman of the Executive Board, Dr. Michael Leiters, said that it’s a mid-engined super sports car that’s even more capable than the 911, yet is “permanently” offered to customers rather than a one-off hypercar. This definitely leans into Porsche’s previous statements that it was hoping to feel more exclusive, luxury, and sporty going forward.

Unlike Jaguar’s complete pivot, however, the Mission S is meant to capture Porsche’s history in the luxury space. It was revealed at the pier in Queens, New York, exactly where early images of the Porsche 550 Spyder were taken back in 1953. This was the brand’s first sports car, shaping its identity early on. The Mission S has that same emphasis on beauty and power.

Outside, it has elegant lines, curves, and an aggressive stance. It has what Porsche calls “floating volumes,” which refers to its flowing forms and sculpture-like surface. Basically, the car showcases its performance character through its body design. One notable area is the flat front, which is inspired by the GT1, which still has its signature round headlights. Every single inch of the Porsche has been designed with precision and intention, even the tires, which are inspired by the 928 and meant to portray lightness and sportiness.

Inside, it has the emptiness of a purist, driver-oriented track car. And yes, this means less digital and more analog. There won’t be a permanent center display. The driver sits “deep within the car,” feeling like they are in a modern, direct cockpit. Wrote Porsche: “Classic switches and buttons are combined with modern displays, creating an ergonomic layout that combines the familiar with the future. The seats also follow this approach. New technical solutions, such as an integrated seatbelt buckle in the center panel and repositioned electric adjustment controls, combine comfort, functionality and motorsport DNA.”

A standout is the driver’s axis, which has a mix of haptic and digital feedback. Behind the steering wheel, the rev counter features an analog needle that changes with the selected driving mode. In some modes, it will move closer to the driver to “enhance focus.” Even the specially designed key has a custom holder, positioned left of the steering wheel. Everything was thought of carefully.

Concluded Porsche: “Above the iconic 911 sports car, Porsche is planning, for the first time, a permanently available super sports car offer. The clear objective here is the highest level of engineering excellence and maximum flexibility. This is underpinned by decades of motorsport experience, innovative and brand-defining technology, and the forward-looking design unveiled with the Mission S.”

Right now, the performance stats are unknown. Expect it to be incredible, but I can’t tell you anything concrete. It will all cost you, of course. It could be $500,000. It could be more.

At least you’ll actually get it if you buy it.

A Porsche supercar was revealed on October 15, but it was overshadowed by Tesla’s smoke and mirrors Roadster reveal that …

[19,3

post-23274","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-performance-and-luxury","category-news","resize-featured-image
["GET
