While the Multipla was roomy and comfortable inside, the exterior was hideous enough that it’s now referred to as the ugliest vehicle ever made.

The bulging and layered front end with high-mounted headlights is just bizarre. It looks like a mutant created with no regard for anything other than functionality. There is no denying that it’s putrid to look at.

However, vehicles with looks that jarring often get a cult following, sort of like “The Room” or other bad movies. It’s a bit of irony. A bit of charm. Either way, there are people out there that love the Multipla despite its homely appearance.

And now, they can rejoice: an even uglier Multipla has been revealed. And nobody said it could be done.

What is the Fiat Multiplay?

The Fiat Multiplay is a concept vehicle that was revealed at the Paris Motor Show last week. It combines elements from SUVs, MPVs, and pickup trucks. And by “combines,” I mean that it takes all the worst parts of each one. Then mashes them together.

Fiat doesn’t think it’s ugly, somehow. Fiat said this thing combines the “space efficiency” of an MPV, the “character” of an SUV, and the “versatility” of a pickup truck. When these traits come together, Fiat said it makes a vehicle that meets the needs of a “family that’s juggling work, school, sport, and outdoor activities.”

So, the Multiplay is 172.5 inches long with three rows of seats that fits six people. Well, plus one. That refers to a “Petsenger” seat that’s in the second row. The original 1955 Fiat 600 Multipla could also seat six people in three rows, but it was quite shorter at 137.8 inches. The 1998 Fiat Multipla was just two rows but still six seats. This one was 157.2 inches.

The Multiplay is the largest iteration, able to fit plenty of family, including those with four legs. But it’s not just a larger Multipla. The Multiplay is able to “transform” its body style due to its “Metamorfosi” design. Basically, the rear section of the roof can slide forward to create a dual-cab four-seater pickup truck. This creates an exposed cab in the back.

What is the point of the Fiat Multiplay?

We unfortunately don’t know what the powertrain of the Multiplay would be. It’s likely an electric vehicle, since the design doesn’t leave a lot of room for an engine in the front.

But it doesn’t really matter, since we probably aren’t getting this ever.

Thank. God.

Fiat has expressed that the Multiplay concept is more meant to be a “laboratory of solutions for tomorrow’s mobility.”

However, it’d be pretty tough to create a vehicle that’s truly able to transform. Instead, we’d probably get a unibody vehicle.

No matter how they want to make it, the Multiplay is ugly. The overly round body makes it look like a cheap child’s toy, and the LED lights with lettering across the front is tacky beyond belief. The body feels overall disjointed and almost chaotic. The wheels are especially heinous.

And honestly, I’d be willing to bet that Fiat made it ugly AF on purpose. Fans of the Multipla clearly love chopped vehicles that make other people sick. Making the Multiplay even uglier was a smart move. A power play.

Fiat, keep doing weird stuff. At least it’s more interesting than the electric SUVs we currently have out on the road.

The Fiat Multipla’s 1998 release was polarizing, to put it nicely.
