The new logo is the “start of a new era,” according to McLaren, and it includes expanding its engineering and manufacturing divisions.

The logo will appear on the back of the McL 6GT, inspired by Bruce McLaren’s original Le Mans road car. It’s appropriate, since the new logo is inspired by McLaren’s 1981 look, making this a bit of a double-whammy callback.

“It’s a reflection of the journey we are on as a company,” David Woodhouse, McLaren Automotive CCO, said in a press release. “It marks the beginning of a new chapter for McLaren, giving a physical expression to the ambition, creativity, and forward momentum that is shaping our future.”

Car and Driver believes the logo is fresher and more sophisticated. Grande Premio said it was not a corporate redesign. But while journalists are applauding the change, the car community is sickened.

Car enthusiasts react to McLaren logo

The new McLaren logo, while it still has the Speedy Kiwi and Speedmark, has not impressed car enthusiasts. It’s safe to say that fans usually don’t like change, but it seems like they all have valid reasons to be repulsed.

“The new logo looks like the eye chart I have to read at the optometrist,” one tweet read.

I can’t unsee it.

A Reddit user noted: “It’s giving Marriott Bonvoy.”

Damn. Now I really can’t unsee this.

Another person pointed out that underlying the “C” can be a bit confusing, since that often means it’s a letter that should be emphasized. Have we been pronouncing McLaren wrong this whole time?

Some drivers wondered whether McLaren would change it back, as Burger King had reverted to its old logo amid ongoing criticism. Others speculated whether Jaguar’s marketing team was also working at McLaren, noting the similarities between the two rebrands. I think Jaguar’s was most definitely worse, since it came with the Type 00. At least McLaren still makes cool cars. Still, it seemed like a room full of accountants had gotten together to create this logo. It’s giving sterile, which is not good for a luxury supercar brand.

Another fan simply concluded: “I’m too poor to care about any of this.”

The ugly logo came after McLaren received a $672 million investment. Hopefully, none of that money went into this marketing team and instead will provide us with some sexy cars.

McLaren has confirmed an SUV is coming

Oh… Nevermind. Apparently, part of that money is going towards a high-performance SUV. Yep…

McLaren was one of the last carmakers in the world to hold out on making an SUV. Every other brand had gave in to the rising demand for oversized, ugly, and dull SUVs. But not McLaren.

That has apparently changed.

We don’t know much about McLaren’s SUV plans. A 2025 report I somehow missed states that there will be an all-wheel-drive V8 hybrid powertrain. It will also have a similar outline to the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT Coupe, plus a massive rear spoiler and diffuser. I don’t know who asked for this, but I hate you.

Welp, a boring logo for a boring vehicle.

Nobody likes the new McLaren logo.
