Whenever I see complaints about the Cybertruck, you know I have to check it out. This time around, I saw a ton of hilarious viral clips of Cybertruck owners trying to trade in their monstrous garbage dumps, only to be told they’re not worth anything.<\/p>\n
But is this actually true, or just people hating on Tesla?<\/p>\n
There have been a lot of rumors on social media that Cybertruck owners are getting completely blindsided by lowball offers for their electric trucks. One video went viral of a guy who allegedly bought a Cybertruck for $110,000 and was then stunned and humbled to hear the trade-in value: $25,000.<\/p>\n
But I think this video is just a skit.<\/p>\n

The following one could be real, which claims the Cybertruck is valued at $75,000. Comments all claim this is too high for a used Cybertruck, likely based on all of the trending skits about Cybertrucks being worth no more than the dirt they can barely drive over without getting stuck.<\/p>\n

Do I believe the Cybertruck is worthless now?<\/h2>\n
As you probably know by now, I’m a certified Cybertruck hater. I think the things are junk. They’re poorly designed and cheaply made, always falling apart, have dangerous recall after recall, and can’t do anything Elon Musk claims they can.<\/p>\n
There is video proof of Cybertrucks getting stuck in sand and needing to get pulled out by a mom in a rental SUV. You’ve probably all seen the image of that guy’s Cybertruck stuck in the water after he believed it could act as a “boat,” like Musk said. It’s just embarrassing how deluded some of these Cybertruck owners are.<\/p>\n
I’ll personally never understand the people who still believe Musk, the man who’s caught in a new lie every day. But I digress.<\/p>\n
Anyway, I clearly hate the Cybertruck. It’s a piece of crap. But I\u00a0still<\/em> don’t believe these depreciation numbers. I don’t think the Cybertruck has actually lost all of its value in just a few years.<\/p>\n

So, what’s the true depreciation of a Cybertruck?<\/p>\n
It’s still bad, but not\u00a0that<\/em> bad.<\/p>\n
Business Insider reporter Ana Altchek is on record stating<\/a> that the Cybertruck 37% to 38% within a year. Car Edge predicts<\/a> that the Cybertruck will depreciate about 50% in five years. This would put the base model at about $51,000.<\/p>\n
This isn’t good. But it’s actually pretty typical for an electric vehicle. Most EVs will lose 50% to 60% of their value in five years, while gas-powered vehicles usually lose more, around 40% to 50%. The reality is that all<\/em> cars depreciate quite poorly, and EVs even more so.<\/p>\n
Electric vehicles are meant to be futuristic and technologically advanced. Older models are considered obsolete. They often can’t perform the same functions as newer models, lack many features, and can’t get the same software updates. It sorta defeats the purpose.<\/p>\n
On top of that, Cybertrucks are ugly. They were meant to be some polarizing design that tested boundaries and conventions. I say, some things are unique for a reason (because nobody else\u00a0wants<\/em> it). But years later, the Cybertruck isn’t shocking or avant-garde or interesting. It’s just a hideous reminder of a floundering company that has given up on EVs and turned to AI and robots. It’s a reminder of a man who can basically say, “This hunk of crap can fly,” and his supporters eat it up.<\/p>\n
The Cybertruck is a “look what I convinced people to buy” vehicle. And it shows.<\/p>\n
But no, the Cybertruck isn’t worthless, as the videos claim. Those are rage bait, especially the first one, where the guy says the vehicle has been damaged like 10 times and he thinks Kelley Blue Book is a scam. It’s just to rile people up, get Tesla and MAGA haters to rant in the comments.<\/p>\n
