Rockstar is dropping something called “An Extended Look” on August 27 in the meantime.

Jaguar, meanwhile, has confirmed the controversial Type 01 gets its full reveal in New York on October 6. For now, we’re getting a glimpse at the interior.

When the Type 00 concept first appeared at Miami Art Week in December 2024, its horrendously blocky, simplistic appearance led people to think it hadn’t properly loaded into the server and was missing a few details.

Even worse, it arrived with that cringe, makeup-ad-inspired “Copy Nothing” campaign that didn’t feature a single car and prompted Elon Musk to publicly ask Jaguar whether it still sold any.

That one did end careers, and not allegedly. JLR chief executive Adrian Mardell stepped down in 2025, and in December, Autocar reported that chief creative officer Gerry McGovern, a 20-year veteran and the driving force behind the rebrand, had been dismissed. Jaguar dropped the ad agency too.

Despite all that, Jaguar is not backing down. Sorta like Ferrari continuing to claim the Luce is getting tons of interest, even though there’s proof the legendary automaker could be begging clients to buy it.

The all-electric four-door GT is a far jump from Jaguar’s previous lineup. It almost feels like putting an end to automotive history and accepting that our future is electric. And here. Happening now.

The minimalist look has remained, and the interior definitely matches.

Jaguar Type 01 interior looks… sad

There is barely anything inside the Jaguar Type 01 cabin. Controls have been stripped back to a slim touchscreen roughly the size of a smartphone, sitting in the center console right where your cupholders should be. Jaguar calls the philosophy “technology on demand,” which is a fancy way of saying everything is hidden until you go looking for it.

There’s a wide screen tucked behind a two-tone steering wheel that looks more like a 1950s Art Deco speaker than an instrument panel. Even the rearview mirror has been relocated, replaced by a digital ClearSight display sitting at the base of the windscreen.

You do, however, get Jaguar’s new leaper logo in a few places, stamped into a brass-inspired finish that runs along the door tops.

The defining feature is a huge structural spine running the entire length of the cabin. It splits the interior into four completely separate spaces, which Jaguar describes as bringing a concept car vision to production. The materials are meant to evoke travertine stone and artisan textiles, and a glass roof stretches the full length overhead.

So this thing is a strict four-seater. Not four seats as a compromise, four seats as a design statement, each one walled off in its own little pod.

The rear seats look sterile, like a cramped waiting room at a doctor’s office, except now each patient gets their own cubicle. It doesn’t look particularly comfortable either. I doubt you’d have people rushing to take your Type 01 if there were other carpool options, and now you can only take three of them anyway.

CONFIRMED

Full reveal

Oct 6

In New York. Yes, really.

Managing director Rawdon Glover says the Type 01 is “unmistakable from every angle,” and that the interior is no different. He’s not wrong. I just don’t think he and I mean the same thing by it.

The name, by the way, has an explanation. “Type” nods to the legendary Jaguars that came before, the zero stands for zero tailpipe emissions, and the one marks the first of a new generation. The concept was Type 00. This is Type 01. Presumably we count upward from here.

So when do we actually see it?

A camouflaged Type 01 prototype is at Monterey Car Week right now wearing what Jaguar calls a distinctive new wrap, and it lands at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 16. It already did dynamic runs at Goodwood earlier this summer.

But you still won’t get to see the final design or hear anything about the powertrain until October. The concept had over 1,000 horsepower and a claimed 430 miles of range, though concepts always promise the moon.

What we do know is that it’s built in the UK on Jaguar’s own electric architecture, and that it will reportedly cost somewhere around $200,000. At that price it isn’t fighting a Model S. It’s fighting a Bentley.

Will the Type 01 live up to the company’s performance history? Or will it be another extreme departure?

Two years of teasers later, we still don’t know. Which, honestly, might be the most impressive part of this whole campaign.

Jaguar and Rockstar Games are in competition right now to see who can squeeze the most teasers out of a …

[19

post-16904","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-performance-and-luxury","resize-featured-image
["GET
