Gordon Murray’s Le Mans GTR supercar prototype appeared at the Le Mans Classic over the holiday weekend, a celebration of over six decades of race-focused engineering.<\/p>\n
The newest vehicle, the Le Mans GTR XP1, appeared in racing green with plenty of aggressive curves and sharp lines. Professor Gordan Murray started the Le Mans Classic race, then the Le Mans GTR XP1 made its way around the Circuit de la Sarthe’s curving turns, driven by Dario Franchitti. Its longtail form and high-revving V12 made it quite the spectacle.<\/p>\n
The Le Mans GTR is inspired by iconic race cars from the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. The Cosworth V12 and six-speed manual transmission make it an incredible driving experience, ready to take on the toughest of laps thanks to its aerodynamics and lightweight design.<\/p>\n
Only 24 Le Mans GTR supercars will be built. And all of them are already sold. Customers should expect to get their vehicle by 2027.<\/p>\n
In addition to the new prototype, Gordon Murray brought nine cars to the track, including the T.50 VP1, T.33 VP12, Shorttail 16R, BT49B, and Duckhams LM Ford. The vehicles completed an out lap, a flying lap, and an in lap ahead of the Le Mans Classic race.<\/p>\n
Said Franchitti: “Driving the Le Mans GTR at Circuit de la Sarthe was an incredible experience. The car has a real sense of purpose, inspired by endurance racing, yet it retains Gordon Murray’s signature focus on the driver. Sharing that moment with the fans, alongside such an amazing selection of Gordon\u2019s road and race cars, made it even more special. It was a privilege to bring these cars to life in the setting that inspired them.”<\/p>\n
No price was listed for the Le Mans GTR, but based on prices of other new Gordon Murray vehicles, it’s definitely a few million easily<\/em>. And anyone interested has hopefully grabbed one, because the vehicles go for even more at auction. The Gordon Murray S1 LM became the priciest new car ever auctioned when it sold for $29 million.<\/p>\n It should also be noted that Ford is rumored to be developing a V8-powered Le Mans Hypercar for modern-era endurance racing. There will be some hybrid tech thrown in there, but Ford’s goal is to remain true to the heart and soul of the V8, hoping to bring domestic brute strength to a race often dominated by Europe and Japan.<\/p>\n Le Mans isn’t just about speed. The hybrid components may take some strain off the engine during longer races, improving its endurance. Improved fuel consumption and reduced mechanical wear could also help Ford dominate.
